Course Description

Course Description

The HOKA Pacific Trails California by UTMB 25K leads runners deep into an untouched part of the Central Coast—an expansive private ranch with a history that stretches back to the Mexican land grant era. This point-to-point course unfolds across the rugged interior of Rancho San Fernando Rey, a working landscape that blends the legacy of old ranch roads with the raw beauty of oak-draped canyons and windswept ridgelines.

With roughly 2,000 feet of climbing, the route challenges runners with long, steady ascents and descents, threading through a patchwork of ecosystems where coastal sagebrush, ancient oaks, and open grasslands meet. The land feels untouched and untamed, shaped by time and tradition, where each turn of the trail reveals a new layer of California’s natural and cultural story. As runners move through this rarely accessed terrain, surrounded by sweeping valley views and the distant shimmer of the Pacific, they’re not just racing—they’re experiencing a living landscape that echoes with the past and pulses with the present.
